Trump's crypto corruption.

In April, Donald Trump said that he plans to host a dinner for the top 220 holders of his Trump meme coin at his golf club in Washington, D.C.

The hawking meme coins from the White House.

And while Mr. Trump says this is all above board, it nonetheless raises the appearance of a conflict of interest in selling access to the President.

Ranking Member Waters has objected to this hearing because of the clear conflicts of interest.

On May 6th, House Democrats walked out of a hearing on cryptocurrency legislation for their own shadow hearing.

Trump has turned the Office of the Presidency into a personal money making machine. He is flouting our country's national security and anti-corruption laws.

Theatrics aside, the optics aren't good. The Trump administration is essentially regulating a cryptocurrency industry for which the Trump family is heavily invested. With, amongst others, stakes in a meme coin, a stablecoin, and a World Liberty Financial coin.

Why is the President planning to attend a dinner for the top investor in his coin?

Look, the President is abiding by all conflict of interest laws. The President has been incredibly transparent with his own personal financial obligation throughout the years. The President is a successful businessman. And I think frankly, it's one of the many reasons that people reelected him back to his office.

The Trump organization and affiliates hold 80% of the so-called Trump meme coin. Which has generated more than $300 million according to the block chain firm, Chainalysis. With a percentage of each trade rooted to crypto wallets linked to the coin's creators. Similar to a transaction fee. When Mr. Trump issued his meme coin just days before his inauguration, he said the point was to, "Have fun." But as the "Journal's" editorial board noted at the time, the venture creates political risks and ethical conflicts.

There are at least some people who buying this coin who seem to view it as an opportunity to influence the President's views. There is a logistics company this week that said they would buy $20 million in the coin in order to advocate for free trade between the U.S. and Mexico. If buyers are buying for that reason, are they wasting their money?

Look, I can assure you the President acts with only the interests of the American public in mind. Putting our country first and doing what's best for our country, full stop.

Another of the Trump's family's crypto ventures is World Liberty Financial. Which has raised $550 million in WLFI crypto sales since October.

We're here in Dubai. We're at Token2049, and this event is unbelievable.

Not long before Donald Trump's son, Eric, posted this video on the social media platform, X, DWF Labs, a crypto firm based in United Arab Emeritus, announced it had bought $25 million of WLFI currency. And it was Zack Whitkoff, the son of Trump diplomatic envoy, Steve Whitkoff, who co-founded World Liberty Financial. And helps run its day-to-day operations.

I've also called on Congress to pass landmark legislation creating simple, common-sense rules for stablecoins and market structure.

Already Democrats have blocked a Senate floor vote on the bipartisan legislation to create a framework for regulating stablecoins. The crypto industry backs the bill. But now Democrats are demanding tougher rules and enforcement.

You're not profiting off of the cryptocurrency business at all?

I haven't even looked.

Interviewer: Has your family?

I'll tell you what, look... If I own stock in something and I do a good job, and the stock market goes up, I guess I'm profiting.

In recent years, Mr. Trump has rightly criticized Hunter Biden for courting foreign business investors and providing access to Joe Biden. Then there was Hunter's sale of paintings to unknown buyers. Today the Trump family crypto business also looks like a political accident waiting to happen.
