Remember, the army of millions and millions of human beings screwing in little, little screws to make iPhones. That kind of thing is gonna come to America, it's gonna be automated. And great Americans, the trade craft of America is going to fix them.

Oh crap. But it's cheaper and more efficient to manufacture in China. Just listen to Apple CEO, Tim Cook.

China stopped being the low labor costs country many years ago, and that is not the reason to come to China from a supply point of view. The reason is because of the skill and the quantity of skill in one location.

What would it take to do that in America? Every expert I spoke to said-

It's gonna take time and a lot of money.

And a lot of expertise, all of which takes years to develop.

Three to five years depending on the product, to put that in place at the scale and quality we need in the US.

Yes, they all agreed, advanced automation would be essential, but no one could say how much an American made iPhone would cost. There are just too many unknowns. So we aren't gonna get a Made in America iPhone anytime soon. But what we might get is a more expensive iPhone because of tariffs. Take the 256 gigabyte iPhone 16 Pro. According to Tech Insights, the hardware costs Apple about $550, add assembly and testing, and apple's total cost lands around $580. Now apply the newly announced China tariffs, totaling 54% to the hardware that bumps Apple's cost up to $850. Apple charges $1,100 for that iPhone 16 Pro today. But that price could increase because now Apple would have to pay more. The company declined to comment on its plans. Or maybe Apple eats some of the cost, or maybe Apple gets another exemption. Or maybe we all start buying used iPhones, or maybe we all learn how to remove-
